Trees In Love Sculpture (Completed 2014)
With the construction of the METRORail Red Line from 2009 to 2014, the community realized that the transit power station being constructed on the corner of Fulton and Boundary would be an eyesore.
Greater Northside Management District partnered with Avenue CDC, the Go Neighborhoods Cultural Committee and Capital One Bank and asked Houston artist Rosalinda Toro to develop several designs to present to the community. After meeting with the community, the Go Neighborhoods Cultural Committee and the GNMD Board of Directors chose the Trees In Love sculpture.
The work is a metal screen that creates a 3D landscape of trees, grass and hills while serving as a fence. It consists of different sizes of steel, including square and round rods and tubing, that are welded together with a metal sheet.
The sculpture makes the METRO Fulton/North Central substation an art focal point for the community.
